For Why Did Our Garden Bear No Apples?

For Why Did Our Garden Bear No Apples?

You sneered,

unaware of how timorously

from the neighbour’s apple garden

had I thieved the forbidden fruit…

The gardener chased after me

The apple in your clasp did he see

The bitten fruit fell at your feet…

And now you’re gone

Yet, still, for every year passed

whispers of your abandoning strides

haunted my ears, my soul

tortured my thoughts…

And I, in my lamenting mind,

drown in one facile wonder;

“for why did our garden bear no apples?”
